Jobs at Keima

We have just updated our jobs page with two new jobs:

Application development engineers wanted

Keima is actively seeking to employ application development engineers to support ongoing client projects. The ideal candidate will be able to apply their knowledge of software development to solving real-world problems, have a strong research background, and relevant industrial experience. The position will involve liaising with customers to clarify specific requirements, developing innovative solutions to meet their needs using Keima’s Overture Framework, and supporting the deployment of solutions to end users. Fluency in several software languages and the ability to adapt to new practices and environments is essential, familiarity with .NET an advantage. International travel will be required.

Wireless telecommunications consultants wanted

Keima is actively seeking to employ wireless telecommunications consultants to support ongoing client projects. The ideal candidate will be able to apply their experience of wireless telecommunications to solving bleeding edge technology problems, have a strong research background, and relevant industrial experience. The position will involve providing support to clients planning and optimising wireless networks, and using planning and optimisation solutions developed by both Keima and third parties. The ability to provide technical leadership both internally and for clients is essential, familiarity with modern software development an advantage. International travel will be required.

Keima is a great place to work and there are some really exciting projects coming up that we need smart, enthusiastic people to help us realise. We are making an innovative range of solutions for the telecoms sector that apply cutting-edge software techniques to bleeding-edge telecoms problems. I know that is the sort of thing that companies always put on their job adverts, but in our case it really is true! Come and see for yourself.

C# for Sharp Kids

Microsoft have just released a nice introduction for kids (of all ages) who want to learn C# (or VB - but why would you do that to a child? :-)

It is based around their insanely generous Visual Studio 2005 Express freeware development package.

It reads quite well and seems to be a good introduction to the difficult, but rewarding pastime that is programming. It is great to see this sort of thing. However, we need much, much more. We need to lower the barriers to entry for programming - this text is great, but you need to be 10+ to have a realistic chance of understanding it and gaining from it. It is important to add more "discoverability" to these things; kids should be programming without realising that is what they are doing. More drag-and-drop, more colour, more fun.

A great start, but there is lots to do.

Live Departure Boards sidebar gadget for Vista

Stuart Preston has created the first actually useful sidebar gadget for Vista that I have seen: a train departures board.

UK only at the moment, but as the trains everywhere else run on time, that is probably sufficient :-)
